They are both self-taught and have been conquering the international scene with their daring, outspoken and political designs: Zimbabwean artist, graphic designer and activist Sindiso Nyoni and the Rotterdam based fashion designer and dancer Odair Pereira, founder of DAIR design. At Afrovibes these two creative and activist artists meet on stage for the first time. How do they move as independent artists between activism and the commercial market? Can you be a socially engaged and activist artist and simultaneously work for commercial enterprises and corporations?
‘One of my favourite Martin Luther King Jr quotes is “A riot is the language of the unheard”. The link to social activism is what denotes my “African” design aesthetic.’
