Did you know that there have been African Amsterdammers since at least the 1590s?
People from Africa and the African diaspora have shaped this city in profound and sometimes hidden ways. In fact, South African Amsterdammer Vuyo Raymond Matinyana co-founded Afrovibes festival!
Join Badass Tours on this 90-minute storytelling walk to explore the stories of some of these fascinating people. The walk starts and ends at de Brakke Grond and you can combine it with the performance Épique by Nadia Beugré on Friday and the SOIL|SOUL Triple Bill on Saturday.
About the organisation: Badass Tours uses meticulously researched storytelling performances and tours to introduce Amsterdammers and guests alike to the city’s BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women’s history. Previous tours and performances include the Holland Festival, Amsterdam Museum, and City Archives.
