Over centuries, the Netherlands has left traces of power and systems of oppression behind. What do these places mean today for descendants of enslaved people, communities and cultures that have remained outside the history books?
Through dance, music, visual art and spoken word, Space of Becoming explores the lasting impact of colonial legacies, slavery and inequality on personal lives and societies today. The performance opens an international artistic dialogue between the Netherlands, South Africa and Sri Lanka, where different styles, languages and hidden histories come together. Slowly, space emerges for encounter, exchange and a beginning of healing. Drawing from their own backgrounds, memories and artistic traditions, the performers search for new connections and a shared language.
Space of Becoming is a collaboration betweenSites of Memory Sites of Memory (NL), DOX (NL), nATANDA Dance Theatre (LK) en Jazzart Dance Theatre (ZA).
