Donderdag 1 oktober openden we met het Afro_Vibes Festival. Jay Pather artistiek leider gaf een krachtige opening speech over een internationaal festival in CO-VID 19 tijden

AFRO_VIBES FESTIVAL 2020 goes on! Offline with live performances in theaters and online. The 17th edition will be held in AMSTERDAM, ROTTERDAM AND UTRECHT and online from 1-10 October.

The COVID-19 pandemic made us go back to the drawing board and create a completely new program, with live performances in the theaters and with inspiring presentations, talks, performances and performances online. Everything of course corona-proof.

This year we bring performances by contemporary and unconventional theatre makers and artists from South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Tunisia, Senegal and of course from the Netherlands.

In Compagnietheater Amsterdam in a three-day program we bring all the live performances of the festival. De Balie in Amsterdam is the center for a largely online program with theatre makers and artists from Africa who cannot travel to the festival, with presentations, talk shows and live streaming of performances. In addition, in Amsterdam there are live performances in Podium Mozaiek and Bijlmer Parktheater and a site specific program. In Utrecht we bring live performances in TivoliVredenburg and Stadsschouwburg and in Rotterdam in Kunsthal and Maaspodium

Festival Theme is Entanglements / Inseparably Connected.

While there are undeniably differences in language, culture, ways of living and communicating between the cultures of our world, there is a entanglement that encompasses all of us and which we are all part of. Even in moments of physical isolation for our safety, there is a sense of community. Because we know that an individual action by one of us can affect hundreds of us. We all go through this together and we can only solve it together. It is this interwovenness and associate intimacy that Afro_Vibes puts at the forefront this year.
