Grand opening Afrovibes Festival 2010

The South African ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E. Peter Goosen opens the Afrovibes Festival 2010, after which a short excerpt from Mzobane by Via Volcano will be performed followed by:

Blue Blood

Our blood, which binds us all together is a richness of colour that makes up the red pigment. This red thick fluid are our memories of centuries of shared history between cultures and generations. In the latest play of South Africa's leading choreographer Gregory Maqoma, blood is used as a metaphor for the connection between generations. He invited representatives of the old and young generation as dancers Luyanda Sidiya and Shawn Mothupi and singers Madale Kunene and Syd Kitchen. Playing and acting with each other gives them and the public a chance to examine and change new and old traditions.
